To gain entry into the accumulator, an operator must start by pressing the red pushbutton on the Solenoid Controlled Key Bank. Once pressed, the accumulator’s control system brings the machine to a controlled stop. Once it is safe to enter, the control system will energise the solenoid allowing an operator to remove the Access Keys trapped in the unit. The Access Keys are transferred to the Mechanical Door Locks mounted at the access points on the guarding of the accumulator. The actuator is released once the Access Key is turned to the locked position in the door lock. The Access Key will remain trapped in the lock until the actuator has been properly returned to the head of the unit.

To form seamless stainless steel tubes, accumulators are used to build up a continuous supply of a thin steel strip before it’s fed to the forming machines. Operators need to gain access into the accumulator for machine maintenance or if there’s an obstruction affecting the feed to the forming machines. However, access inside the accumulator should only be achievable once all the moving machinery has come to a controlled stop.
